1 in 5 Canadians will struggle with their mental health in any given year. At StFX, this means that almost 1,000 of us will struggle this year alone, and in reality, that number is probably higher due to our status as students. Of those who struggle, only 1 in 4 will get the help that they need.

The StFX Peer Support Program exists to provide non-judgmental support, listening services, and information to all students regardless of gender, race, or other socioeconomic factors. The services we provide are holistic and aimed towards those struggling with mental health or sexualized violence. All services are survivor centric, feminist, inclusive, anti-oppressive, and born of a desire to make seeking support a less intimidating process. If you are interested in volunteering with us, please answer the following questions and hit submit before September 15th!

Job Description: volunteers will complete training throughout first semester, and work 1-2 2.5 hour shifts a week once the PSP office opens in January, where they will provide listening services to students who visit the PSP office, help students understand their options in seeking help, and direct students to appropriate local or on-campus resources dependent on the situation. Volunteers may also be asked to take on tasks such as managing social media, or doing classroom visits. Elections Canada is the independent, non-partisan agency that is responsible for conducting federal elections and referendums. The following positions will be employed by Elections Canada, not the Students’ Union. Elections Canada is hiring 1 student to work as a Community Relations Officer and 6 students to work as Service Clerks during the election period. These positions are paid and training is included.

Community Relations Officer will work 50 hours throughout the 36 day election period, September 15th-October 21st. This job will require you to move amongst campus to engage with the maximum amount of students. Students’ applying should be outgoing, non-partisan, well-spoken, and passionate about voting and politics. These students mandated responsibilities include: Guide students to find information about elections Canada Hang Elections Canada posters on campus Set up booth and answer students’ questions regarding the election Present information on behalf of Elections Canada

Get Out The Vote is a non-partisan, nationwide campaign led by the Canadian Alliance of Student Associations (CASA) with the purpose of encouraging young Canadians to vote in the upcoming election. Canada’s youth will make up the biggest group of eligible voters. We need to take a stand for our futures, because if we don’t speak up, how can we expect to be heard?

What is “Vote-Crew”?

Vote-Crew is a high-energy, non-partisan, voter mobilizer. They are an adaption of O-Crew, however instead of running X-Fest, Vote-Crew they will be volunteering with the Get Out the Vote campaign this fall! Although it is an adaption of O-Crew, every student is welcome to apply regardless if they are on O-crew or not.

StFX Students’ Union St. Francis Xavier University Students’ Union is seeking to hire a Part Time Seasonal Staff person to provide cleaning and operational support services for the Golden X Inn from Mid August 2019 through to Mid May 2020. This part-time seasonal position is responsible to the Bar Services Manager, St.FX Students’ Union and General Manager, St. FX University Students’ Union. The staff person will play a key role to maintain all Golden X Inn equipment, and keep it in high working order. Liaison with Facilities Management for work orders for the Golden X Inn, provide top level cleaning of the Golden X Inn on a daily basis. This person will also assist with set up and take down for Golden X Inn events, keep accurate inventory, be a point of contact for shipping and receiving of products for the Golden X Inn and other duties as required. The successful candidate must display an affinity for StFX and have an understanding of how the StFX Students’ Union operates. Candidates must possess strong leadership, organization, and time management skills. In addition the successful candidate must enjoy working in a team environment, be a self-starter, and have all corresponding safety certification up to date. The nature of this position will require this person to work some evenings and weekends.

The successful candidate must have a minimum 1-2 years working experience in the areas as outlined. The hourly rate for this position will be between $18/hr - $19.75/hr

Responsibilities: • Manage all aspects of the custodial responsibilities on behalf of the Students’ Union and the Golden X Inn. • Manage and maintain a high standard of cleaning and maintenance for the Golden X Inn and its machines. • Must be able to work for periods of time while standing, lifting, and bending • Must be able to work 20-30 hours a week • Attend regular staff meetings • Follow outlined procedures for machine operation and requests for various services provided by the University • Must assist with managing pick ups and deliveries with outside agencies Qualifications and Skills: • Proficient with Cleaning and Bar Equipment and maintenance • Current and valid Nova Scotia driver’s license • Fluent in English written and oral • Must be Bondable • Strong communication skills • Previous experience (1-2 years preferred) • Must be able to start on the dates indicated

The Sexual Violence Prevention (SVP) Committee is an advisory committee to the President. Health & Dental Committee

Administrative practices, including the collection of fees, opt-outs, addition of coverage, maintenance of eligibility, claims handling, billings and other administrative related duties and issues. iii. Promotion and communications of the plan iv. Claims payment / abuse and fraud v. Benefit plan accounting and other financial matters vi. The coverage offered to students vii. Student complaints viii. Recommend changes to coverage and rates for council approval ix. Deal directly with other advisers, including, but not limited too, consultant, legal counsel, auditor, administrator and Trustees of The campus Trust. x. Monitor plans claims experience xi. Make recommendations to the University regarding coverage and rate changes for the International Student Medical Plan. xii. Member appeals and complaints and the resolution of same xiii. Provide a report to council on a regular basis xiv. Arrange for training for new committee members, such training to be provided for by the Consultant.

The U Marketing Team . . .

TUMT members will be paid by the hour and scheduled for approximately 5 hours per week at provincial minimum wage.
The TUMT shall be responsible for producing all marketing and communications content on behalf of TheU . This may require TUMT members to be present at events, services and activities throughout the year.
The TUMT shall be responsible for executing promotional plans for all services, activities, events, revenue generators and advocacy as directed by the Assistant Marketing Manager and the Communications and Marketing Manager.
Each member of the TUMT shall be scheduled for office hours each week, as directed by the Assistant Marketing Manager . These hours may fluctuate from week to week based on need. This work includes but is not limited to design work, research, and promotional activities outside the office.

Assistant Marketing Manager . . .

The Assistant Marketing Manager must demonstrate skills and experience with graphic design, photography, videography, and executing communication plans.
The Assistant Manager will begin May 1st and work approximately 30 hours per week throughout the summer.
The Assistant Manager will work approximately 15 hours a week starting September 1st until April 30th.
The Assistant Marketing Manager shall be responsible for assigning marketing and communications projects to the marketing team on a weekly basis.

Job Description ...

The SFRCC shall be responsible for the development, maintenance, and effective management of the Students' Union Student Food Resource Centre.
The SFRCC shall be required to attend Society Night in the Fall to recruit new volunteers.
The SFRCC shall be tasked with selecting, training, and scheduling Volunteers at the Centre each semester.
The SFRCC shall be responsible for collecting donations of food items and transporting them to the Student Food Resource Centre.
The SFRCC shall be responsible for organizing at least one (1) food drive.
The SFRCC shall be responsible for coordinating the Summer Community Garden and greenhouse including the training and scheduling of volunteers.
The SFRCC shall be responsible for six (6) office hours per week.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES ...

Work within the Maritime Bus Agency to sell bus tickets, ship outgoing parcel, handling incoming packages, contact customers and general customer service
Answer the telephone for Maritime Bus Agency and handle inquiries about bus schedules.
Answer the telephone for the Information Desk and handle queries for campus information.
Operate various information desk services: such as fax, photocopying, assigning keys, making change, lost and found, and other services as directed by supervisor
Process ticket sales for events such as Students Union concerts and other events
Handle cash, complete interact transactions
General information inquiries regarding STFXU & Students Union
Work with Students Union executive and the full-time staff to perform other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS ...

Must be a current StFX student
Mature, responsible and organized
Customer service skills
Ability to interact with customers, co-workers and staff
Ability to work with minimum supervision
Ability to handle cash and balance cash float
Office experience considered an asset
Eligible for bonding

EXPECTATIONS ...

Mandatory Training shifts (4).
Shifts can be as short as 3 – 4 hours or as long as 7 - 8 hours each.
Instructions for Maritime Bus and Info Desk responsibilities are given as issues arise and are subject to change.
Monthly Staff meetings.
Expectations include:
- Dependability, courtesy of customers
- Attention to details
- Accuracy when handling cash
- Confidentiality on certain matters

Drive U is a student drive-home service that operates 7 days a week, providing StFX students with a safe ride home after studying, coming to campus, or visiting the Golden X Inn.
Drivers will typically work on average 2 times a week, with shifts ranging from 4 to 6 hours. Should be noted that the DriveU service only operates at night time, making for great student job.
All drivers will be accompanied by another driver during their shift and will split up driving duties.

To be eligible for this position, the appointee must be a Drive U Driver.
Act as the service coordinator for Drive U; the main liaison between drivers and the office of Vice President Finance & Operations.
Oversee driver hiring & training alongside VP Finance and Operations.
Responsible to overlook the day-to-day operations of Drive U: including weekly staff scheduling and the dissemination of relevant information to employees.
Ensure that service policy and procedure is adhered too.
Cancellation of Drive U for weather purposes is under the discretion of the Senior Drive U Driver in consultation with the VP-Finance and Operations.
